This week we have a story from Rhianna about one of her clients in Community & Employment Services. Thank you for sharing this celebration with us!

J has been in service with us since 2002, almost 17 years. For the last 3 years, J has worked at Cost Plus World Market, keeping the store floors in tip-top shape and greeting customers as they shopped the aisles. J has a wonderful memory and loves to tell stories about the changing landscape of nearby cities, often giving history lessons on what businesses used to occupy which buildings and advising what is new around town.

17 years is a very long time, and after working very hard all these years J, his Employment Specialist (myself), and his guardian decided it was time for him to retire. In January, J had a retirement party at his work, Cost Plus, where they decorated the employee lounge for him and provided cake, sparkling cider, and many well-wishes for a job well done. J took one last trip around the aisles before saying his final goodbye. Though he is now retired, I am happy to say J will be continuing service with us through Community Inclusion. I look forward to supporting J in his retirement with activities that will keep him engaged in his community, a place where he truly loves to be. I wanted to share his story because I wanted to celebrate his work ethic, zest for life and community, and his positive spirit, which have truly made him a wonderful client to work with, as well as his long history with Service Alternatives!

That’s all for now!
Anna
