March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month! If you’ve spent any time with us, or even just on our website, you know we strive for this year-round. Our society does not always make it easy to include people with developmental disabilities in everyday activities. Sometimes individuals with developmental disabilities just need a little support to negotiate those barriers and that’s where we come in.

Over the years, we have had the pleasure of supporting many people with developmental disabilities. And if we do it right, you won’t even notice us. Our job is to support this person in living the life they chose and navigating any barriers with them. We wanted to take this opportunity to share a client’s story, because that’s really why we’re all here.

Carla has been working with a client who made the decision to quit his job pre-pandemic as he did not enjoy the work he was doing and missed his old job working in a pizza place. He really wanted to return to that type of work. Unfortunately, when the pandemic hit, that delayed his ability to pursue that dream for several reasons, but most impactfully was the shut down of in-person dining. Carla was able to work with MOD Pizza, who was opening up a new location, about supported employment and potential job opportunities. This client received an interview and was soon hired onto the team!

We hope you’ll take a little time this month to celebrate with us as we continue creating inclusive communities.
