Meet Isaac Folkerts! He has been with SA for the past three and a half years! He is currently the Program Manager for Community Employment Services in Whatcom County. Before that he was an Employment Specialist in Whatcom.
Isaac most enjoys the diversity of the clients we serve, the work we do, and the impact it has on their lives and ours.

When you meet someone and they ask, “what do you do?” How do you answer?
“I start off with an explanation of SA, that we are a Human Services organization, as well as a brief description of CES. I tell them that we find employment for individuals and assist in giving them the tools to find meaningful employment for themselves.”

What does a typical work day look like for you? If there are no typical days, describe your most recent work day.
“There are some things that are pretty typical. I’m constantly spending time being a resource to my team, working with clients and resolving any issues that may arise, or simply brain storming with my team if they get stuck. One of the biggest things that I do daily is connecting with the community, along with serving our clients the best way I can.”

What do you like most about your job?
“I love being able to give my team the tools to do their jobs the best way for themselves and their clients.”

What three words would you use to describe your role?
“Diversified, Resource, Fun.”

What personal quality or skill do you think has helped you most in your job?
“The ability to communicate clearly and effectively.”

Given your experience, what would you say to someone who has just started in the field? (and/or) What about someone who is interested in a job like yours?
“I would say strap in! it’s a roller coaster of a job. Be patient – you won’t know everything and that’s okay.”
