Meet Kalvin Erbacher! Kalvin has been with SA since June of 2017 and has been promoted toDialectical Behavior Therapy Program Manager homed at the Lynnwood Office! Kalvin greatly appreciates and respects how dedicated SA is to our guiding values.

When you meet someone, and they ask, “What do you do? how do you answer?
“I say I work with adults with developmental disabilities, specifically using dialectical behavior therapy, and I help create a life that people will be proud to live.”

What does a typical work day look like for you? if there is no typical, describe your most recent work day.
“As a Manager, answering an ocean of emails is a daily task. Once I get to my office, I meet with my team members to make sure that they have all the answers they need, and make sure they are doing well as facilitators and as individuals. I try to stay in communication with other managers in terms of what they need from us with DBT and what they can expect from our projects. I also try my best to make sure that I’m utilizing all of the strengths in our team.”

What do you like most about your job?
“What I like most is that I can help lead the people that I’ve grown close to over the last year. And that I could create some amazing things within DBT, and these things will hopefully bring about some positive changes in people’s lives.”

What three words would you use to describe your role?
“Rock, encyclopedia, validator.”

What personal quality or skill do you think has helped you most in your job?
“To show validation and/or empathy. Those are the foundations of compassion in my eyes, and that has really helped open professional relationships within the company to me. It’s important to allow people to feel wanted and cared for. I feel that I can get along with pretty much anyone if I keep those qualities in mind.”

Given your experience, what would you say to someone who has just started in the field (and/or) what about someone who is interested in a job like yours?
“Stick to it. It is going to be challenging, and there will be times that you feel burnt out and want to quit. However, those challenging times are also where we experience our greatest growth! And don’t forget to breath.”
